Another Day in DC

Hey kids! Not much to report but I wanted to update b/c I know some of you get on my case if I don't have anything posted for awhile...work has been good...learning new things every single day, and further encouraging a career in law and politics. I really like working for the party side of things...I feel like I have a good understanding of the three main branches of government, so to see how the parties impact things is something different to me.

I think one day while I walk to work I'm going to take pictures of what I see everyday and document the trip. I get to walk past the Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, and adorable row houses...its great! I really enjoy it...esp. when everyone is hurrying here and there...I have this weird habit now to scrutinize anyone that looks like a congressman or a senator to see if I can recognize them...usually I'm dissappointed, but I like to dream!

Well, this weekend holds a big surprise post...some of you know what I'll be doing...but for those who don't-check on Monday...I am doing one of the coolest things EVER this weekend!!!!

Oh, and feel free to comment whenever...miss you all!

Oh Hillary

Well, besides doing my internship and having a blast traipsing around the city...I also have to take a class...the class I ended up with was "Politics and Communications" and I have to say that its been pretty interesting so far...today was great fun-we had to pretend we were strategists hired by the Clinton campaign to help her pull her up from the sinkhole shes finding herself in...we had some interesting proposals (nothing that could actually work of course), but it was cool to see what we could come up with for her...I've come to realize that unless she wins Texas and Ohio, she doesn't have a prayer...

Some exciting news: so I have been trying to figure out what I want to do this summer as far as jobs/internships go...and I am now officially going to be interning at Congressman Todd Akin's district office this summer! I am so excited...it combines the best of both worlds-politics and St. Louis! I loveeeeee DC, but I decided I needed to come home this summer...so this internship is exactly what I want to do! Now all I need is to find a side job that pays some...so if you know of anything...let me know! Miss you all!

PS watch the debates tomorrow night to see Obama and Hillary fight it out...theres nothing I love more then Democrats duking it out (just kidding...you know I love you all)

Now I'm Cultured

Today was fun...it is still kinda cold here so we thought it would be a good idea to go to the National Gallery for a little bit...we went to the east building where the contemporary art was displayed. Now, I love art, and I love museums...but some of this modern art stuff was a little spacy for me...but it was still cool to see!

PS-I'm off to New York City in a month!!!!!! SO EXCITED-that will be a good blog post for sure!...miss you all

Let It Snow

So okay, I really have nothing exciting to say except that it snowed in DC today (about an inch or so) and it was beautiful to walk home! Especially passing the Supreme Court and the Capitol building coated in snow...I tried to take pictures but they didnt really look all that great...I'll post them tomorrow and you can judge for yourself I suppose

Well, again, I miss you all and I love getting comments (for those of you who can figure out how to post them at least) ;) It makes me smile to see them (or to hear that an attempt was made to comment haha) I appreciate it! If you all email me too (most of you have my address...I don't want to post it here for numerous reasons) I'll email you back and tell you more stories if you like! I love hearing from everyone while I'm here-it helps me feel connected to both Creighton and St. Louis!

The Weekend

Well we have a 4 day weekend this weekend...and decided to make the most of it! Yesterday was amazing...for our class field trip, we all went to the top of the Washington Monument (ps, if you are ever in DC, you should do this)...you could see the entire city! Here are some pictures-

Yeah...as you can see, the views were amazing! I loved it! After the monument trip we had to go back and run some errands...then we just hung out and ended up going dancing that night...it was a good Friday!

Today we decided to go to the Native American History Museum to eat some lunch (the food there is amazing) and made an impromptu stop to the botanical gardens on the way back...the museum was really cool...we all had great food and the exhibits were sweet...they had an entire exhibit on Native American dress which was really interesting to see...the botanical gardens were awesome too....the flowers were gorgeous! It was great to see them!

Hugs and Kisses

Happy Valentines Day! Since today is a holiday I'll change my colors for you all...so people have been angry that I have't updated in awhile so here goes! Not much has happened really since I wrote last (hence not posting since Sunday)...One of my housemates and I made cookies yesterday for the house...it was pretty fun!

What else....work has been good...today was fun (but insane b/c so much was going on)...I got to type up meeting minutes, which actually ended up being really interesting. I've also developed a new love for Subway (its really close to my building...easy lunch)...I joined a gym two blocks down from my work so I've been able to work out a lot (in addition to the miles and miles of walking I do everyday)

This weekend sholud be pretty crazy...tomorrow our director is taking us to the top of the Washington Monument...so expect some pictures. Tonight we are all going out somewhere to go dancing...haha yeah....I think tomorrow we might go to the art gallery too? Who knows! Our plans change all the time but I'll keep y'all updated. Oh, and I don't have work on Monday so I get an extra day to hang out! Sweeeeeet...

Well, I'm off to figure out what I'm doing for dinner...but I will post pictures of my adventures tomorrow

ps....lets start a petition for Huckabee to drop out of this race...hes just being a bother

Happy New Year!

Let me start off by saying that however windy Omaha ever gets, today's wind in DC tops it all...it was RIDICULOUS...but it didnt stop us from going out and doing something fun! Today was the Chinese New Year celebration, so we went to Chinatown to check it out. On our way we stopped at the Sackler Smithsonian museum to see an exhibit from Georgia (the country, not the state)...some of the boys in the house work for the Smithsonian and analyze surveys, so we went and filled some out to help them do their job!!!! It was really interesting too...I'm glad we went!

After the museum experience, we walked through the frigid cold and wind gusts of 40mph to get to Chinatown (with a stop at Starbucks along the way)...when we got there, the entire street was trying to keep everything from blowing away...oh, and there were like, 523903209832409 Obama supporters there passing out buttons and such, so of course everyone in my house had to get one (except me, of course!)...

The celebration was pretty cool...they had all these beautifully decorated dragons and then had this crazy ceremony where they shot off thousands of tiny fireworks on the ground, and the dragons danced around them trying to avoid getting hit...by this time we had decided to stop in a local chinese restaurant for lunch (which was hysterical...long story)...then took the packed metro back home!

It was a crazy day...now I'm just working on homework (ew) and getting ready for the upcoming week...back to work tomorrow (and back to getting up super early....) Keep commenting for me...I really miss home (both the STL and Omaha)...so keep me updated on whats going on!

How Lucky am I? (or how big of a dork am I is the better question)

Yesterday was INSANE-but so much fun! On Fridays, we don't have work...instead we have a seminar run by the director of our program to disucss our internships and see how things are going. Then in the afternoon, he either brings in speakers or takes us somewhere...its pretty neat. Well yesterday all he had us do after class was watch a movie about DC, so needless to say we were done with that pretty quickly.

A group of us decided we wanted to go walk the mall and see all the monuments. We were out for about 5 hours...with a stop at the National Archives as well. We walked up to the base of the Capitol stairs (which I had never been to before so that was pretty cool)...then on to the Washington monument, the WW2 memorial and finally Lincoln. We also stopped by the Vietnam wall too...

It was a great day, a little chilly, and a LOT of walking. I'm pretty sure we walked over 5 miles...but totally worth it!

Thursday was just as interesting too...work has been so great, I love all the experience I'm getting. I even got to go to the Hyatt Regency to take notes at a meeting of the National Assosciation of Secretaries of State. So here I was this baby intern just hanging around with almost every Secretary of State in the US....it was crazy (but I had a blast!)

The First Day...

Today was my first official day on the job and it was GREAT!!!!! I get to work in the counsel's office, which is so cool, and I already feel like I've learned a lot. Tomorrow is going to be especially fun b/c its Super Tuesday (ps to all those good friends of mine who dont know what that is, its the day when 24 states have their primaries and caucuses...so watch MSNBC or something tomorrow and keep track!) Its going to be such a learning experience-again, I can't wait!

My walk to work is beautiful...I get to see the Capitol and the Supreme Court everyday...its a great trek! What else...the house is still so much fun...the people are great and I love them all! We had our first class today...half of us are in one class and the other in another...the class I'm taking is called "Politics and Communications"...our professor is hilarious, and has worked on all these major newspapers and news shows...I think it will be really interesting.

Well, I miss you all a lot-thanks for the comments-keep them coming b/c I love hearing from you! I hope you all have a great week!

The First Weekend...

Well, my first weekend in DC has come to an end, and I have to say it was so much fun! Yesterday the group of us went to the zoo, which ended up being really cool...it was so nice outside too! I think my favorite part was the pandas...and again, got to ride the metro there (still love it...)

Today was pretty cool...some of us wanted to find our internship locations (myself included) so we took a walk around Capitol Hill...I got to see the Supreme Court for the first time and it was amazing! I can't believe how huge it is! The view of the Capitol building was awesome too...After that stop we found the RNC and ran into this really cute vintage store called "Remix" (adorable!)

So tonight was the superbowl and I just wanted to say that I am SO GLAD the Giants WON! YAY! Most of the house was pumped for the victory (a few Patriots fans were a little disappointed however)...but all in all, it was a great weekend! I start my internship tomorrow-so wish me luck!
